If you’ve ever lived in Japan or known a Japanese family, Shichi go san is a big thing for families with children. Parents dress up themselves and kids alike and head off to a shrine where they pray for their children’s health and success in life. Usually, this is followed by a nice restaurant lunch together. Somewhere along this adventure, the trip to the photo studio is made and good same old photos with gradient backdrops are taken for generations to come to view and enjoy.
This family has taken a more life-like approach and brought a photographer with them to capture the event in photojournalistic style.
Going through any seemingly simple task with three boys aged 3, 5 and 7 is anything but simple and their schichi go san album shows it.
Grumpy faces, I-don’t-want-to-wear-this attitude, losing the shoes, proud grandmas, happy and tired moms, patient dads, smiles and all.

Because that’s life. I just capture it as it happens.
